How to Have a Great Experience With Your Vape Coils

If you shop at a well-stocked vape retailer like V2 Cigs UK, you’re going to find many vaping devices with refillable tanks and replaceable coils.

A refillable vaping device is the best type of device for many vapers because it allows you to use any e-liquid that strikes your fancy instead of the handful of flavors that are available for a proprietary non-refillable device.

That’s especially true for vapers in the United States now that the U.S. government has banned most flavors for non-refillable devices.

If you own a refillable vaping device, how can you have the best possible experience with it? This article is going to help you in that quest by discussing the most important component of any vaping setup: the atomizer coil.

Why is the atomizer coil the most important piece of vaping hardware? It’s because that’s the component that generates vapor. In large part, the atomizer coil determines the volume of vapor that your device produces as well as the flavor that you experience when you vape.

If your coil isn’t in good shape, you won’t enjoy the flavor that your vaping device produces, regardless of how good the e-liquid might be.

If you want to have the best possible vaping experience, then, you need to treat your coils right. This article will explain how to do it.

Step 1: Always Prime Your Coils

The first thing you need to know about maintaining your vape coils is that a coil must always be wet before you use it for the first time. A vape coil almost always has a wick made from cotton or another natural fiber such as flax.

A natural fiber wick is great for flavor, but it also means that the wick can burn if you don’t take care of it. One of the most common mistakes made by vapers when they use refillable tanks is that they start vaping immediately after filling their tanks for the first time.

A high-end coil contains a lot of wicking material, and if the material isn’t wet, it can burn. If a coil’s wick burns, the coil will never produce a good flavor again. Before you use any vaping coil for the first time, you need to prime the coil by soaking the wick in e-liquid.

You can do that by placing a drop of vape juice on each of the white openings on the side of the coil. You should also send a few drops of e-liquid down the top of the coil.

After installing the coil and filling the tank, wait several minutes before you begin vaping. The wick should be completely wet at that point.

Step 2: Keep Your Coils Wet

Once you’ve primed a coil and have begun using it, the next thing that you need to do is ensure that the coil stays wet. The first way to do that is by maintaining a slow vaping pace.

After each puff, wait for the coil’s wick to absorb more e-liquid from the tank. Even more important than your vaping pace, though, is the need to ensure that your tank stays full.

If you look at your tank from the side, you’ll see that the coil’s wick openings are a bit higher than the bottom of the tank.

If the e-liquid in the tank doesn’t cover those holes, the wick won’t replenish itself efficiently – and as you’ve learned, a wick that isn’t saturated with e-liquid is likely to burn.

Don’t try to vape until your tank is completely empty; top the tank up when it is less than half full.

Step 3: Watch Your Vaping Wattage

If you want to avoid burning your coils out, you’ve got to be mindful of the heat that they produce. If you examine the side of a coil, you’ll see that it’s etched with a suggested wattage range.

In general, it’s a bad idea to vape above that suggested range because there’s a risk of burning the wick. The manufacturer of the coil has determined that, within that range, the coil’s wick works efficiently enough that it can stay wet during normal vaping.

The ideal vaping wattage for your situation depends on the length of your puffs when you vape. If you prefer longer puffs, you need to keep your vaping device at the low end of the coil’s suggested wattage range.

Otherwise, you’ll detect a burning sensation at the end of your puffs because the coil’s wick will be dry. If you prefer quicker puffs, you can safely push the wattage a bit.

Step 4: Avoid Sweetened E-Liquid

The final thing that you need to know about keeping your coils in great shape is that you should avoid using sweetened vape juice as much as possible to maximize coil life.

The big, colorful bottles that you see on the shelves at your local vape shops are almost always sweetened with sucralose. Sucralose is very sweet, and it makes it possible for vape juice companies to create e-liquids that taste just like real candies and desserts.

People naturally love those flavors, and vape juice makers have responded by using sucralose in as many products as possible. You can expect just about every vape juice from a mainstream brand to contain sucralose.

Sucralose tastes great – there’s no denying that – but it’s also terrible for vape coils because it doesn’t vaporize. When you apply heat to sucralose, it caramelizes like sugar. The caramelization process causes the sucralose to darken and turn sticky.

As you continue vaping, a layer of burned sucralose forms on the coil and begins to gradually thicken.

Eventually, the layer becomes so thick that the flavor of burned sucralose becomes even more prominent than the flavor of the e-liquid that you’re using – and all of this can happen very quickly if you’re using a very sweet e-liquid and a very powerful coil.

If you taste the flavor of burned sugar after using a new coil for just a day or two, you’re definitely using sweetened e-liquid.

For longer coil life, try using unsweetened vape juice instead. If you use e-liquid without sucralose, your coils can potentially last weeks at a time.
