IPV Mini 30w Review
With the resounding success of smaller box mods led by devices such as the Eleaf iStick 20W, the battle for the cruiserweight box mod championship is heating up.
The IPV Mini 30w mod appears to fit the mold of the capable challenger, hitting shelves just a few short weeks ago with its streamlined metallic form factor and all-new internals.
There’s not much room at the top of the pocket-size box mod game, and our IPV Mini review will show just how this unit stacks up in an increasingly crowded division.

What’s New with the New IPV mini 30w?
The internal YiHi SX130 chip also features a flash memory for storage of wattage and voltage settings when the unit is powered off.
What type of battery does it take?
The IPV Mini Mod takes a single 18650-type battery which can be charged internally or removed from the mod and charged with a wall unit.
Dual charging options isn’t an option we see a lot when reviewing mods, but it’s certainly something we’d like to see more of.

Charger that works double time?
In case things weren’t convenient enough for you yet, the internal charging setup of the IPV mod is powered by a USB port, so odds are you already have about 12 compatible chargers for it lying around already. Half of them have probably shorted out, but that’s certainly not the IPV Mini’s fault.
If your luck with USB cables is even worse than average or you prefer to charge batteries externally to keep an entire fleet of them juiced up and ready to go, we suggest the Trustfire charger.
It charges a variety of battery types, including the 18650 batteries that make the IPV Mini Box Mod go, so it’s a solid investment for someone with plenty of power needs.

Does size matter? What about looks?
The smooth styling and sharp anodized aluminum finish of the unit is an attractive start, and the durable materials used mean that it should stand up to most incidental abuse. Vapor production is good, with above average flavor and density.
The small size of the device looks at first like it could be easily lost forever inside a pocket, but the designers showed some real-world insight by making the unit a tad heavier than it looks.
If that sounds like a bad thing, remember when lighters were allowed in society and how easily they got lost? It’s because they weigh nothing. Light is not always right, and the size and weight ratio make for the feel of a quality product in the hand. Thanks for thinking it through, guys.
Looking for the Variable Voltage/Wattage?
The IPV Mini mod features variable voltage with a range from 3.0 to 8.0 V along with variable wattage adjustable anywhere between 5.0 and 30 watts in increments of 0.1.
These features allow more discerning vapers to customize the flavor and density of every puff as well as adjust the throat hit that can comfort of choke a user depending on what sensation they prefer.
Threading and Build Quality
The spring loaded 510 pin should become a standard feature in quality mods, as once you’ve been able to try out every tank and accessory you own on one device, it’s tough to go back to more limited setups.
Build quality could have benefited slightly from buttons with a more solid feel, but their operation is firm and responsive, so maybe we’re thinking about this a bit too much.
Another nifty feature of the IPV Mini 30w is the adjustable spring loaded 510 connection which can be extended or retracted to accommodate a tank of any pin length.
Best Clearomizers for IPV Mini 30W
Kanger Subtank Mini
Speaking of hybrid tanks, the Kanger Subtank line is considered the standard bearer of the category, and in our opinion the Kanger Subtank Mini represents its’ most refined form, bringing the simplicity of a clearomizer and the fun of an RBA together without the oversize mass of the original Kanger Subtank.
Don’t get us wrong, we love a big tank full of vaping goodness, but the bulk of the full-size Subtank would look more than a bit awkward with this tiny IPV mod and the 22mm diameter of the Subtank Mini is a perfect fit.
Everyone seems to love the Aspire Nautilus, and we count ourselves among its many supporters.
What’s not to love about a durable Pyrex tank, a huge capacity, and adjustable airflow?
If you’ve stopped reading to try and think of an answer, just save yourself some time and check out our review of the Nautilus here on BC, because there really isn’t much of one.
Similar mods to the IPV Mini 30w?
Innokin iTaste MVP 3.0
The Innokin iTaste line has long been a favorite in the vaping community, combining high quality, reliable performance and ease of use in a box mod form factor with the original MVP and its descendants.
The MVP 3.0 from Innokin is the newest member of the family, and although it has undergone a few cosmetic tweaks and performance upgrades, Innokin promises more of the same this generation.
Kanger KBOX 40w Mod
The all new Kanger KBOX represents the manufacturer’s first foray into the world of mods.
It would be easy to assume any offering from such an esteemed maker of vaporware would live up to the standard of the company, but creating the equipment that makes the whole thing go is an entirely different ballgame.

Advanced Internal Chipset
Along with the neat little trick of remembering your prior settings when the unit is powered on, the YiHi SX130 chipset enables true temperature regulation.
This helps to keep your high powered device and its components cool and non-explosive.
The list of safety features claimed by the IPV Mini is impressive, even for a relatively high-end unit.
Stability measures include low voltage protection, low resistance protection, short circuit protection, reverse battery polarity protection, and a high input voltage warning system.
It’s pretty much one of the safest Li-Ion devices on the market as long as you don’t invent a way to make things dicier.
