Eleaf iStick 50 Watt Box Mod Review

The original iStick 20w from Eleaf got its rightfully warm welcome to the marketplace just a few months ago, including here at BC where we took an in-depth look at the mini machine.

That means the next generation of the iStick line has pretty big little shoes to fill, and iSmoka has accepted the challenge with the iStick 50 Watt mod.

This bigger and badded form factor comes with a sleek, redesigned body, an upgraded 4400mAh battery and a host of other improvements.

We hope it’s a stellar sequel to one of our favorite mini vapes, but of course, the only way to find out is with a good old fashioned iStick 50 watt mod review.

What’s New? Eleaf Istick 50W

leaf50 1The Eleaf iStick 50 Watt is a reimagining of the popular 20 watt model.

Moving the buttons and screen of the unit to its face from the old position at the side of the unit.

It also includes an adjustable stainless steel connection point.

A huge battery capacity and a dedicated locking feature to conserve the wealth of battery power when the iStick is not in use.

Battery

Churning out up to 50 watts of juice sizzling power takes a serious battery, so the folks at iSmoka just cut out the middleman and soldered one in there.

The iStick 50 Watt’s massive 4400mah battery is non-removable, but should provide more than enough portable electricity for a full day’s charge even with the heaviest vapers.

Charger

The internal battery of the iStick 50w can only be charged via the USB port at the side of the unit

The USB cord is not included with the base unit, but there’s at least one under your couch and the iStick goes from a drained battery to a full charge in under 5 hours.

The iStick 50 Watt also supports passthrough functionality, allowing you to use your device while charging and make those 5 hours much shorter.

Voltage/Wattage

The iStick 50w box mod has variable voltage adjustable from 2 to 10 volts as well as wattage that can be adjusted from 5w to full power.

For new vapers, we recommend starting out with some of the lowest voltage levels and working your way up to unlock the perfect combination of flavor, vapor temperature and throat hit.

Threading

The 510 threading from the 20w model returns for the 50 watt, but has been upgraded to a stainless steel spring-loaded connection for wider compatibility.

The iStick 50w also comes with a 510-to-eGo adapter, so if you’re short on cash and need a replacement tank from the drugstore, you can surely use it here.

The 510-to-eGo adapter allows you to use skirted (or eGo threaded) tanks instead of 510 tanks/RBAs.

Red Alert

The iStick 50 Watt Mod also stands out for its advanced temperature monitoring feature.

This automatically shuts off the output when the internal temperature of the device reaches 70 degrees Celsius.

Don’t be too alarmed when this happens, after the “Temp Protection” warning disappears from the screen 5 seconds later, you’ll be good to go.

More on the Eleaf iStick 50w

Eleaf iStick 50 (1)The 4400mAh battery comes as advertised and beyond, giving out a day’s power with ease and two day’s juice with any sort of moderation.

In fact, legend tells of an iStick 50w battery lasting for nearly a full work week, but your mileage may vary so let’s not get into anecdotes as fact so much.

Performance on the iStick 50w is impressive, with great vapor quality and density even at relatively low power levels.

The size of the iStick 50w belies its power, and it’s great to have such a capable mod not demand much space in your pocket at all.

The brushed aluminum finish is a popular choice for these units, but it certainly works here, and the device is available in one of 4 colors to contrast with its polished chrome accents.

The iStick 50 Watt Mod has decent build quality, with a solid and comfortable feel in the hand thanks to its balanced weight and rounded edges.

However, the buttons are slightly prone to rattling, and although this may not bother many users, others may hear the sound of a beating heart under the floorboards and subsequently driven mad.

Not a huge deal for us though. Another upgrade we love is to the iStick’s 510 connection.

It did fit the vast majority of atomizers even before the addition of the spring-loaded pin in the new model, but it’s hard not to get used to the clean, flush look that an adjustable pin can offer.

The relocation of the USB charging port is a bonus, allowing the unit to stand on end and look pretty while charging.

Speaking of charging, you probably won’t be doing it as often as you’re used to with the iStick 50w.

Overview

leaf50 2We already loved the iStick line starting with the original 20w, so it didn’t take much for the 50w model to win us over.

That’s why we were even more surprised at how much thought iSmoka put into this seemingly minor upgrade.

Where some other manufacturers would have pumped up the horsepower and called it a day, the iStick 50w appears to have been tweaked at every turn.

Overall, the iStick 50 Watt is more than the next in the line, it just may be the best.

It brings back everything people loved about the 20 watt model: small size, reliable performance, simple operation, and great battery life.

All this plus adding a number of upgrades that make this so-called mini mod one of the best pieces of equipment on the market at any size.

Whether you’re new and looking for the next step up from your eGo or a veteran vaper looking for the next addition to your collection, we can offer the same advice: go for the Eleaf iStick 50 Watt Mod.
