Kanger Subtank Plus Review

The new Kanger Subtank is being called the next generation performance hybrid tank system.

If we know one thing that is for sure, the look of this tank is phenomenal.

This Subtank allows the vaper to build their own coils or replace coil heads with Subtank Plus coils – all in the same tank, which truly makes it a dream hybrid.

What’s New with the Kanger Subtank Plus?

There is quite a bit new with the Kanger Subtank Plus. For one thing, it has a larger tank and another nice extra is the thicker o-rings.

The first Kanger Subtank had a 6ml capacity and a few issues that were bothersome. It not only leaked sometimes but you had to unscrew to top to place in the RBA section.

In this version, there is a larger 7ml capacity and it has the thicker o-rings to prevent leaking. Another nice surprise is the improved airflow system.

These air flow holes seem longer and wider which should help with getting lots of vapor production.

This Subtank is also a little smaller than the first one so some people may have a little frustration with builds but it’s well worth the upgrade.

Coils and Drip Tip

There is a 0.5 ohm coil that is installed on the Subtank and it also comes with a 1.2 ohm in the box.

The drip tips are the same size as the Kanger Subtank Mini so it’s smaller than the previous version of the Kanger Subtank.

It includes the kit (with cotton) for rebuilding the RBA as well as the two OCC coils and a spare Pyrex glass.

And of course, the coils are OCC, organic cotton coil heads which means better flavor and cleaner taste.

What About Clouds?

The clouds produced with the Kanger Subtank are really immense and full.

It is very much like the Subtank Mini by Kanger so if you love how well that produces clouds, then be prepared to love this one just as much – you won’t be disappointed.

How’s the Flavor?

The flavor is excellent and although similar to the Kanger Subtank Mini, you get the larger capacity tank so it holds more.

You may experience just a little more flavor since the airflow has been improved, so that’s definitely a good thing.

Look at it this way, if you love how the flavor is on the Mini, you’ll love this one even more.

Overall Appearance

The appearance of the Kanger Subtank Plus is pretty sweet.

It almost has a science lab look to it and if you’re not keen (is that a 70s word or a United Kingdom word?) on the red o-rings, the tank comes with spare ones in black.

One thing to keep in mind, it’s huge. It’s a whopping 25mm in diameter, so if you’re concerned about it looking good on your 22mm devices you may want to check out the Subtank Mini instead.

It also holds double the E Liquid as the Atlantis.

Performance

The upgraded new Kanger Subtank vapes just as good as the first one and the mini.

On the 0.5 coil, the flavor is the same as what you’d expect from the franchise.

With the new improved airflow, the flavor seems enhanced.

You get a really sweet warm vape at around 20w to 30w, just like you’re used to.

The drip tip does seem to be a little cooler, which is probably because of the improved airflow system, which is a definite plus.

However, there isn’t a lot of mouth to lung hit function even on the smallest airflow setting.

Things to Keep in Mind

1. There are a few things to keep in mind with this Subtank.
2. You’ll want to keep the center hole clean from juice in order to prevent leaking and keep it clean.
3. You’ll also want to change the atomizer head every other week or so.

Suggested Box Mod

There are tons of box mods you can use with the Kanger Subtank Plus, but here is one that works particularly well:

All signs indicate that early 2015 is time for new entries into the class to put up or shut up.

User Thoughts

This is a really impressive Subtank and the hybrid factor makes it a winner.

There are a few issues, like you’ll find with just about anything that’s new.

The old one had leak issues and even with the larger o-rings, this one will leak as well if it is on its side.

That may not be a deal breaker but it is certainly a concern and pretty darn annoying.

On the major plus side, this Subtank vapes really well with awesome cloud coverage and plenty of flavor.

It’s not even an even trade because the leaking is not as much an issue as the flavor and cloud production. Plus it may just be an issue with some users.

Most people love the dual air flow which gives you the ability to bump up the wattage around 5w at a time for an even more satisfying experience.

Even though the RBA is smaller and some like a larger build area, others claim this one is actually easier to rebuild. The base is a gold plated, spring loaded 510 connection pin.

The Verdict

The pros are that the Kanger has great flavor, an ample capacity, and organic cotton coils.

The cons are that it could use a little more airflow and there is a small juice channel capacity on rebuildables.

Overall, this is a fairly priced Subtank that has a ton of features, and looks really awesome.

The brand is trusted and has quality products so this is pretty much a win in our opinion.
