rDNA 40W Review – An Innovative Device for Serious Vapers
The VaporShark rDNA 40W is the latest variable wattage device and has the Evolv DNA 40 board for better temperature control, state of the art wireless charging that is integrated into the device, a brighter screen that is easier to view with its larger size, and a magnetic battery door.
Not only does it have many new attributes but the look and feel of it is impressive and while the price may be a little intimidating, it is worth the money for all of the features it has.

When using the Vapor Shark rDNA 40W for the first time, make sure it is charged first.
You get a power plate that you can sit anywhere; it displays a green light behind the firing button when it is in the right area to charge and a red light when it needs to be charged.
When it is fully charged, the light will go off.
There are a few display messages that can be seen on the display that include: weak battery, shorted, Ohms too low, Ohms too high, check atomizer, too hot, and temperature protected which means that the coil has reached its limit of the maximum temperature protected setting in a single puff.
There are mode settings such as stealth, locked, left, and right. To access the wattage locked mode you simply hold down the wattage up/down buttons at the same time.
There is a default temperature of 450 degrees but you can change the temperature to ranges between 200 degrees and up to 600 degrees with the wattage up/down buttons in that menu until you get your preferred setting.
One of the new features of the rDNA 40W is the 40D board which allows it to run in a dynamic temperature controlled mode as long as it has the proper coil and wire configurations.
The other pure genius move is the addition of the Zip high speed charging system.
Instead of having to be tethered to a power source, the Vapor Shark rDNA 40 has the options of using a 2A USB port which charges the device in about an hour and a half or so.
The wireless option is a definite plus and an innovative implementation.
It uses the inductive charger which allows you to set it up somewhere convenient after finding a wireless charging source. No more cords or not enough room to vape freely while your device is charging.
The Vapor Shark rDNA 40W includes an LG-HE2 18650 battery and is 2500 mAh. It charges either through the USB ports as with similar devices or can be charged with the wireless option.
It charges in about an hour and a half to an hour and 40 minutes and lasts for about quite a while.
It can be compared similarly to the Aspire Subohm when it comes to battery life. It typically lasts about a day with pretty heavy vaping.
The casing of this device is a metal alloy, cast zinc aluminum alloy to be specific, but it is heavy duty and feels as if it is more heavily constructed.
It features a scratch resistant finish that is rubberized in texture with this high quality metal.
The casing comes in two different colors – matte gray and matte black. It has a solid feel to it and is one of the smallest mods that utilizes the Evolv DNA 40.
The magnetic battery door is easy to use and with the ejection ribbon, you can swap out your batteries with ease.
The connection threading is a 510 with a gold plated loaded spring loaded pin.
It features four air grooves that are wide and deep for optimum airflow, for atomizers that get their airflow from the bottom, and the threading is very clean.
The Vapor Shark rDNA 40W has a nice look to it that is sleek and compact. The black or gray matte finish looks like a different casing than the metal alloy and more like a heavy plastic but in a good way, not a cheap way.
It is very sturdy and fits well in the hand. There is one thing that may be an issue with some people – the display is on the bottom which isn’t always that convenient when you’re using it.
With that said, the display is large and bright for easy reading. There can be a screen clouding problem that the manufacturer acknowledges but it does not affect the function of the screen, it may however, make it harder for some to read the display.
There are magnets that work to hold the door in place instead of the usual hex screws which gives it a clean look and easier use.
Since the magnets are very strong, you won’t have to worry about the door opening accidentally or sliding and shifting.
Similar Mods to the Vapor Shark rDNA 40W
There are a couple of similar mods to the Vapor Shark rDNA 40W.
These include the Vapor Shark rDNA 30W of course as well as the iPV series, Sigelei box mods, and the Aspire ESP 30w.
There are a few product considerations to take under advisement before using this device:
Only use 30 amp IMR / INR or higher batteries.
Always turn off the Vapor Shark rDNA 40W before removing the batteries and do not use a battery with the wrapper missing or damaged.
Coils must be built using non-resistant wire such as the Ni200 in order to use the temperature control output.
This is an excellent device from Vapor Shark and those discerning vapers will love it. The price tag is a little higher than similar units – $189.99 is the average.
Some users have had minor issues with the Evolv DNA 40 boards but those issues have been addressed and fixed by the company so you can count on excellent customer service if you do have a problem with this device.
The higher wattage output is a plus for many and the lower firing resistance and the function of being able to step down voltage output are also upgrades to take under consideration when looking at the price.
Not to mention the ability to control the temperature that the coils reach. With the removable battery and helpful ejection ribbon, ability to charge wireless, and wide range of settings, this is an excellent mod that most vapers will enjoy using.
All in all, this is an excellent device that may be a little higher in price but has a wealth of unique and innovative features that are different from the others. There are also a few deals you can get, one being from Vaporshark.com itself.
They have a free offer where if you order the rDNA 40W from them at the $189.99 price, you get a free 30ml bottle of E Juice as well – you even get to choose from a huge variety of flavors and of course, your nicotine strength from 0 mg to 18 mg.
You can also add a Shark Skin to the device for $9.99 and Vape Shield (Hydrophobic Nano Coating) for $30.
